PAUL KELLY, CAPTAIN OF THE STARSHIP SUPERYACHT

“I totally recommend Varador 2000, it is a very serious and reliable shipyard”, says Paul Kelly, captain of the Starship, a superyacht of 30 meters in length by 7 in beam built in 2007 in by the prestigious Italian shipyard Custom Line, of the Ferreti group. Paul Kelly arrived at Varador 2000 in September 2020, after finishing the summer season sailing the Mediterranean. “I had never been to this shipyard, but the truth is that the experience has been very satisfactory at all levels,” he says. For this reason, “I have already recommended it to various fellow captains.”
Kelly also came to Varador 2000 recommended by another colleague, Pere Barrio, captain of the Sunshine sailboat, who “told me that for the work I had to do on the Starship the best option near Barcelona was this shipyard”. Kelly visited the Varador 2000 website to see its catalog of services and those of other shipyards in the area and “I no longer had any doubts, I was convinced.” In previous years “we had stopped at various shipyards in the Balearic Islands and France to repair the ship with less success than now,” he says.
As Kelly explains, in Varador 2000 he has found a great technical team that has scrupulously complied with the agreed deadlines. “Now I can go to New Zealand in peace, handing over the boat to the new captain and the new owner in perfect condition. Everything is correct and supervised ”, he emphasizes. Captain Kelly explains that the Starship has recently been acquired by another owner and that he will soon embark on another superyacht in his home country.
For just over five months, the Starship has undergone a fairly complete refit on the Varador 2000 technical esplanade, which has included various mechanical and electrical work, hull repairs, tank emptying, antifouling, and surface polishing, among others. “At all times I have felt supported by the shipyard technicians, who in addition to being good professionals have a very personal and close treatment. I really liked this way of working. In other dry docks they just want to make money and sometimes they forget about customer needs”, says Kelly.
The Superyacht Starship, Custom Line 97 ‘model, is for totally private use. It has capacity for 10 people, with another five crew members. Designed by the Zuccon International Project, it is built in composites and equipped with two 2400 HP motors.
