The Comet 41 Power Plate sailboat , sponsored by Varador 2000 of Arenys de Mar, has brilliantly won the RI 2 category of the 31st edition of the Copa del Rey sailing competition, which ended last weekend in the waters of the Bay of Palma de Mallorca.

The Power Plate Varador 2000 has had a Copa del Rey to remember, dominating the race from start to finish. Owner Santi Monjo’s sailboat has won the RI 2 category for the second year running, comfortably beating two leading rivals, the Italian boat Volmer of Fabio Dominici and the Galician Movistar of Pedro Campos (the big favorite), who soon saw the Catalan boat slip away, leaving them to fight for the other two podium places.

Such was their superiority that the  Power Plate Varador 2000  had the final leg to spare. Skippered by Gustavo Martínez Doreste and with Toni Rivas in charge of tactics, the Club Nàutic El Garraf boat had a stunning Copa del Rey, leading the second-place finisher, Volmer, by 20 points and Pedro Campos’ Movistar by 29.5 points.

According to Santi Monjo, owner of the  Power Plate Varador 2000 , at the end of the competition at the Palma yacht club,  “This is our second consecutive Copa del Rey win, and every time there’s a double, three times as many. I hope to be back here celebrating the same thing next year. It’s been a tough week, tougher than the standings might suggest, but we’ve had a great regatta with the same boat and crew, and if it works, you shouldn’t change it . “

The  Power Plate Varador 2000 also won the 2011 Copa del Rey sailing competition and the 2009 Copa de la Reina competition. Varador 2000 has also sponsored other highly competitive boats over the years, such as the Tecnocasa Varador 2000, a Comet 41 that finished fourth in the Copa del Rey sailing competition in 2006, second (Comet 45) in 2007, and fifth in 2008.
