Varador 2000 successfully manages the painting and refit of the MY Maridome, a highly complex technical operation – Varador2000 – Varador2000

Exceptional finishes and zero pollution in the port of Arenys de Mar

Varador 2000 has just finished one of its most complex jobs: the afloat repainting of the Maridome, a 54-metre superyacht that arrived at its technical base in Arenys de Mar at the end of September with a severely damaged hull. To paint the Maridome, Varador 2000 wrapped it in a spectacular covering of scaffolding and plastic tarpaulins that allowed the painters and other workers involved in the repair to work. The floating deck prepared for this complex operation weighed 35,000 kilos; the combined weight of the scaffolding and tarpaulin.

Varador 2000 managed this highly complex work, which required painstaking work to achieve exceptional finishes, while guaranteeing zero pollution in the waters of the port of Arenys de Mar. In total, 580 square metres of surface area was repainted, covering the entire steel hull and aluminium superstructure. The shipyard’s team of superyacht painters were involved in the process.

The coating of the yacht was scheduled in seven stages (each with a corresponding coating to avoid contamination), which included three coats of preliminary primer and three coats of topcoat. The entire process was meticulously carried out to the strictest quality standards using the best paints on the market.

Paul Bell, skipper of the superyacht Maridome, is delighted with the work of the Varador 2000 team: ‘The finish is first class and both myself and the yacht owner, who visited the yacht to inspect it before the process was completed, were very positive about the work carried out. Bell states that ‘the team of painters at Varador 2000 is one of the best in Europe, perhaps the best’.

The captain of the Maridome also mentioned the bad weather this winter, which made the work difficult at times, ‘but despite this, the deadlines were met quite well’. While the Maridome was being repainted, which took around six months, the Varador 2000 technicians also carried out other repairs and maintenance on the exterior wooden elements (carpentry) and the interior water installation. The technical stop at the Varador 2000 facilities was also used to carry out the usual annual maintenance checks on the engines, generators and other components.

The Maridome, built by Brooke Marine (UK) in 1989, has a crew of nine sailors and four officers who remained on the ship while the work was being carried out. The Maridome can accommodate ten people in addition to its crew. It is for private use.
